Organic Light Emitting Diode Display
Sony is introducing their OLED displays. What is OLED you ask; it stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. In a nutshell the organic materials used for these displays have a higher illumination quality while consuming less power…win win. The OLED monitors are worlds apart in construction and design from CRT, plasma or LCD monitors. They are much thinner so they weigh less, they have a higher pixel speed and better picture contrast in both a well lit and low lit rooms. To be fair to OLED’s predecessors LCD screens do have a longer display life and traditional CRTs have a better viewing angle.
This whitepaper, OLED What Is It and How Does It Work?, is a bit like reading a physics lesson but don’t let a little science speak deter you from appreciating the finer points of this technology. If you want to save some time skip to page 9 and beyond to read about how the OLED screens compare to other display technologies.
